Parkes is ready for the challenge ahead

Clacton Hockey Club skipper Carl Parkes has warned his promotion-chasing side to expect some tough and differing tests in the coming weeks.

The Seasiders are third in NE14Hockey East Men’s League division three south-east, following last week’s crushing 5-0 victory against Chelmsford thirds.

They are two points behind second-placed Southend – who they host on the final day of the season – and four clear of Essex University.

But while delighted by his side’s form this year, Parkes believes they have some tricky matches on the horizon – starting with Saturday’s trip to Upminster.

“Upminster will be a tough game and they won’t roll over easily,” he said.

“But it’s important we get all the points to make sure we capitalise on any slip-ups by Southend.

“After that we go to Chelmsford seconds.

“Their second team have only dropped two points all season and that was in the first game.

“Some of their wins have just been by a single goal, though, and we certainly had our chances first-time around to put them under a bit of pressure.”
