Mahoney hopeful of another victory
5:15pm Thursday 26th January 2012
Clacton Rugby Club are preparing for one of their biggest challenges of the season so far.
High-flying Billericay pay a trip to the coast for an Essex League division one showdown on Saturday.
The Stock Road side were top of the table until a recent wobble saw them dip to third.
And Clacton, themselves flying high in fourth, are under no illusions about the size of the task facing them at Vista Road.
However, coach Matt Mahoney believes his side are capable of another victory – just as they managed in their last outing against struggling Writtle Wanderers.
“We’re really looking forward to the game and it would be fantastic to beat Billericay,” Mahoney told the Gazette.
“But they’re a very good, powerful and well-organised side.
“They were leading the way until recently and one win would see them shoot straight back to the top of the table.
“It will be tough and obviously we’ve really got to be on top form.
“But there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be confident and ambitious.
“If we play the way we want to play, there’s no reason why we can’t win.
“We’ll give it everything and, if we perform as I know we’re capable, we’ll have every chance.”
