Foakes hopeful of more success in Bangladesh
7:00am Friday 27th January 2012
Ben Foakes is confident he and his England Under-19 team-mates can fight back from behind and win their series against Bangladesh.
The Essex batsman and wicket-keeper smashed a century to help his side win the third One-Day International in Chittagong, making the overall score 2-1.
There are still four matches left and Colchester and East Essex man Foakes is hopeful of more success - starting with tomorrow’s match in Sylhet.
“The tour got off to a tough start for us, getting rolled over for 86 in the warm-up match before losing two tight opening games to the series,” said Foakes, who lives in Kirby-le-Soken.
“But in the last game we seemed to get a better grasp of the sub-continental conditions and managed to chase down a pretty high score.
“I was really pleased with the way I batted and felt a big score was coming, after the way I started in the first games before getting out in odd ways.
“It’s completely different out here compared to playing back home and we’ve had to learn fast.
“But now we’ve acclimatised to the conditions I’m hoping for a positive outcome to the series.
“Playing Bangladesh Under-19s is different to my expectations as it’s not like the senior team.
“They are a better team that the other sub-continent sides, as we saw when they recently beat Sri Lanka 4-1.”
The sides meet again on Monday and Tuesday, before the final match next Saturday.
