Clacton teenagers in court to face armed robbery charges

TWO teenagers have been remanded in custody after an attempted armed robbery at a village store.

Darren Gilbert, 18, care of Hayes Road, Clacton and a 17-year-old from Clacton appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court today.

It is alleged they went into the Alresford village store at about 6pm on Friday before picking up a Stanley knife and attempting to steal the till.

Gilbert was charged with attempted robbery, possessing a knife and assault by beating.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with attempted robbery and possession of a knife.

No pleas were entered.

They are due to appear again at Chelmsford Crown Court later this month.
