A120 safety work 'won't save lives'
8:30am Saturday 4th February 2012
A ROAD safety campaigner believes safety work on an accident black spot will not prevent another fatal crash.
The Highways Agency will begin work on altering the A120 between Great Bromley and Little Bentley on February 22.
Sections of the dual carriageway past the junction will be reduced to one lane, but David Lifton, who lives nearby in Pellens Corner, Bentley Road, still wants more to be done.
He said: “It’s clearly a good thing it’s going ahead and it will make some improvement to the road.
“People can still turn right and that is still a problem.
“It’s not the solution we want but it’s a tricky one as I appreciate the Highways Agency has a limited budget.”
Mr Lifton believes the ideal solution would be to introduce a roundabout in the road, and also reduce the speed limit to 50mph.
The stretch of road has seen three fatal accidents in the past five years.
Earlier this month a 78-year-old woman had to be airlifted to hospital following a two-car crash at the Harwich Road and Little Bromley junction.
