Up-for-auction hotels are 'genuine bargain'

TWO of Clacton's historic Edwardian hotels are going under the hammer with a combined price-tag of almost £750,000.

The 19-bedroom Lemon Tree and the Pier Hotel are up for auction on Wednesday.

Experts say they need a budding Alex Polizzi or Ruth Watson - of TV's Hotel Inspector fame - to return them to their former glory.

The hotels are both on Orwell Road in the resort's conservation area.

The Lemon Tree has a guide price of £400,000 while the Pier Hotel is valued at around £325,000.

Mike Gray, of Dedman Gray auctioneers, said the hotels needed an investor "with vision".

“Either or both of the hotels would make a seriously decent proposal for someone," he said.

"Each one represents a genuine bargain.”

The auction takes place at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend.
