Fire crews called to Old Road flat
11:08am Friday 3rd September 2010
FIRE crews were called to a ground floor flat in Old Road this morning to tackle a fire.
Two appliances from Clacton’s Blue Watch attended the call out, and police closed off Page Road while the fire was put out.
The flat, on the corner of Old Road and Page Road, was 100 per cent smoke filled and a small amount of fire damage also occurred.
Fire Incident Commander Sub-officer Bates said: "We were called at 9.26am and had the incident stopped at 10am.
"One hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus units were used as well as a positive pressure ventilation fan.
"It is not known what caused the fire."
An upstairs flat also filled with smoke, but no damage was done to the first floor property.
The female occupant of the ground floor flat declined to comment.
A joint investigation is taking place between Essex Police and Essex Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire, and investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the fire was suspicious.
Anyone with information should contact Essex Police on 0300 333 4444.
