Local Labour group slams Coalition
10:30am Friday 3rd September 2010
THE Clacton branch of the Labour Party has hit out at the coalition government over its approach to the economy.
In a statement sent to the press, the group defended Labour’s response to the global economic crisis as part of an international agreement implemented by governments left and right across the world.
Keith Henderson, the trade union liaison officer for the Clacton Labour Party, said: “The Government are running riot with public services and the cuts they are currently bringing in will have a direct impact on residents here in Clacton.
“Whether it is the cuts in free swimming or the free school meals trials that my union GMB moved at Labour Conference or fewer police on the streets we are seeing the impacts of the Conservative and Liberal Democrats and their devastating agenda."
“This is on top of the biggest lie of all, the VAT increase, costing the average family here in Clacton nearly £400 a year. It only took six weeks for a central election promise to be broken,” he added.
